In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) - What is it?
In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is a fertility treatment in Assisted Reproduction, which consists of extracting the eggs from the woman's ovaries through a follicular puncture and, subsequently, fertilizing them in a laboratory with the man's sperm (or, if the case, of a sperm donor). Next, the evolution of the embryos in culture is observed until they are transferred to the woman's uterus in order to achieve pregnancy.
In IVF the following types are distinguished:
Conventional IVF.- The eggs and sperm are placed in the same culture dish, waiting for them to be able to fuse on their own.
ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection).- The sperm is introduced directly into the egg through a microinjection.
The type of IVF to be performed will depend on the infertility conditions of each couple, as well as the preferences of each assisted reproduction center.
